VIDEO INSPIRATION / mastercrafts - weaving
I was so incredibly moved to tears while watching this little documentary / UK television show called Mastercrafts, that focuses on different crafts each episode. The only one I watched was the weaving episode. Full disclosure, I'm an empath, so I tend to get really emotional when watching any sort of TV (also why I can't hardly watch anything scary, but I digress) so you may not be as "moved" by this as I was, but it really resonated with my path as an artist and as weaver.
My path to weaving was somewhat similar to Holly's because when I started art school, I was originally a fashion major. On a tour of the campus (during orientation week) I was taken to the textile studio. It was small. but impressive. There was a screen printing studio, dye lab and most influencing to me, a weaving room, crammed to the brim with looms. I had never seen a floor loom before and in an instant, I knew my path. I literally stopped the tour guide at that moment and asked her who I had to see about changing my major. I knew I was a weaver, before I had even woven anything. That was in 2006 and I've been a weaver ever since!
I don't want to give too much away regarding the plot of the show because I hate a spoiler, but three people who are interested in weaving are sent to spend an intensive six weeks learning the craft. The episode is split into 4 videos in the playlist above. I really highly recommend it. Inspiring and captivating.
I do feel like it's worth mentioning that I don't entirely agree with how strict they were with one girl. I wish she could have been exposed to Saori weaving, which seemed much more in line with her aesthetic. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. I hope y'all do too. XOXO
