FRIDAY I'M IN LOVE / october 28, 2016

This week was pretty mellow. Here’s what I got into:

1.       Hand-lettering

I’m not sure what got me excited to try hand-lettering, but one night I just grabbed my trusty water brush, cheap ass watercolors, sketchbook, and started practicing. I’m starting to get the hang of varying the pressure (heavy on the down-stroke, light on the up-stroke). Since I was young, I have always enjoyed handwriting things. I mean, I actually like my own handwriting. In college, I wrote all my notes in cursive (which was fast, but definitely made referencing them later a pain in the ass). Calligraphy pens always intimidated me, despite having nice handwriting. Never did I think thought I’d be able to do lettering like that, but I’m starting to think I can!

You can never have too much, right?!

2.       Washi Tape

Totally been loving washi tape this week! Ever since I started bullet journaling, I have been using it in my journal on my spreads. I’m having a great time making little coordinates, picking colors and patterns that I wouldn’t normally pair together. It’s a great design exercise. Also, I’m on a no-spend thang right now so I’m trying to actually USE what I have (what a novel concept, eh).  I think I have only ever used up one full roll of washi tape. There’s always more there than you think there is.

3.       Waiting For Guffman (1996)

Last week I ranted about the Mascots movie that just came out on Netflix and how they had incorporated Christopher Guest’s character, Corky, from Waiting For Guffman in it. I loved that! I loved it so much my husband and I had a chill night at home and re-watched it while I practiced my hand-lettering. If you never seen it, go watch it now! So hilarious.

4.       Boston 2612 Paper Cutter

Literally one of the best things I have ever bought at a thrift store. I raved about it over on my Instagram. When I’m in the thick of a major paper crafting session, this thing saves me so much time. Ever since I got it, those little slide cutting paper trimmers are just so annoying to use. I hardly ever use mine now that I have this one. It’s 12” x 12”, perfect for scrapbook paper. I use it at least once every day, it’s that good! While this particular model isn’t made anymore, eBay has some available (prices start at about $20).

I know, I know. It looks hella boring in the stock photo.

5.       Butter London Nail Polish (Yummy Mummy)

Currently on my nails right now and I LOVE it! It’s the perfect gray taupe with a bit of a metallic sheen. It came in my September BoxyCharm (this is a referral link—I get some sort of arbitrary points if you click it and sign up) and even though I have similar colors, they just don’t look this good. Side note: not sure if Butter changed their formula or whatnot, but I usually have major issues with this brand. However, this particular bottle went on like… well, butter. I guess that’s what they were aiming for?
