FRIDAY I'M IN LOVE / october 7, 2016
Starting something new on the blog in the form of a weekly round-up of sorts, sharing things that I have been watching, reading, generally into, etc. I almost think this is something we should all be doing, considering how much inspiration I find through weird worm holes in the internet everyday. Don't we all?? This week's edition is mostly sort of creepy. ENJOY!
1. Jello Biafra interviews the UFO cult UNARIUS
A couple of things: first of all, I LOVE Jello's voice. I find it strangely soothing and could listen to him talk for hours on end. Also, he dons full Unarius regalia for the entire interview (even with some costume changes!) which is nothing short of incredible. He doesn't ever berate or belittle them which I really appreciate. He just sort of rolls with the absurdity (while obviously questioning it along the way). I have had a long standing fascination with anything cult related and this video is a straight-up GEM.
2. The First Family of Satanism (interviewed by Bob Larson)
Another fun '90s interview! This time super intense televangelist, Bob Larson, takes on Zeena LaVey (then High Priestess for the Church of Satan) and Nikolas Schreck. Boy, does he not like them! Despite their pretty logical answers for every Christian curve ball he throws at them, he STILL refuses to even expand his consciousness for one iota of a second (ain't dogma a bitch?!). Nikolas likes to tease Bob that, "he'd be a great Satanist". This was during the huge uproar in the 1990s that Satanism was taking over America (especially the youth). It's classic fear mongering at its best and pretty entertaining to watch. Also, Zeena looks amazing. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those COS lapel pins.
3. Creepy Ceiling Fan (deleted scene from Fire Walk with Me)
I know the title says "creppy", but believe me it's C-R-E-E-P-Y. This has got to be one of the scariest Twin Peaks scenes ever and it didn't even make the movie! That thing Laura does with her face--- yikes. I am trying not to kill myself with anticipation for the new season of Twin Peaks (on Showtime 2017!) but it's hard. I just keep re-watching episodes over and over, like a crazy person, soooo searching for deleted scenes on YouTube has been pretty fun... and somewhat nightmare inducing.
4. Patti Smith and David Lynch talk...
I don't think I need to say too much about this one other than they are probably the two biggest artistic influences in my life... and they're having a conversation.
5. Hear the Wind Sing / Pinball, 1973 by Haruki Murakami
Currently reading and enjoying! Murakami has become my favorite author over the past few years despite the fact that I haven't read everything he's ever written. To be honest, I've been trying to parcel out his books as long as I can. I don't want to ever run out! These two (in one) are the first novellas he ever wrote and you can definitely tell, but I still like them. They have sort of Japanese-Bukowski-vibe to them.
OK kids, that's it for this week. What have y'all been into?
