PRODUCT / hand-dyed yarn packs
I have been hinting around for a while about the changes coming to LUTE and the Etsy shop, but not really giving any specific details other than it will be more craft related... and blog related (hence the recent redesign of my website).
I have been searching for something to feel "right" career-wise ever since I graduated art school (now over seven years ago). I worked a traditional desk job for four years, depressed and feeling uncreative. When I quit, I thought the answer would immediately come to me. I'm a weaver! I'm a dyer! I'm a witch! I did the things I thought I should do. I burned myself out every time. I ended up dreading the process. I changed LUTE a lot. Hell, I changed A LOT.
CRAFT IS ART. ART IS CRAFT.
Finally, I realized that I don't like just one thing or one technique. I love crafting and art in general and I hate the bullshit so-called distinction between the two. To me, they are one in the same and no one should ever feel that they cannot enjoy or explore either. In art school they tried to beat the CRAFT out of me. Especially being in the textile department. We were always treading that "fine" line. Well, I for one, LOVE crafts. I love gift wrapping, scrapbooking, making holiday decorations and gifts, etc. All of these require the same creative energy that art does. Why should they be treated any different?
OK, here's the breakdown:
LUTE will be mostly based around blogging. Creative projects, techniques and the like. There will be mix between textiles, paper crafting and whatever else seems fun. I hope that you'll join me in expanding your craft consciousness!
...and the Etsy shop?
These are SO perfect for so many types of projects. I have been having a blast using these in all sorts of ways---- not just for weaving!
Each yarn pack comes with 4 hand-dyed mini skeins, enough to create a least one or two small projects (yardage varies between fibers). The focus here is on color, material and texture. My three favorite things!
SUNSET: a combination of bamboo and textural cottons in gorgeous pinks, orange and purple/burgundy reminiscent of your favorite sunset skyscape.
INDIGO: a gradient ombre collection of bamboo, cotton and wool in a variety of weights and textures.
The idea behind the yarn packs is to use them however you want! There is just enough yarn to sastify, but not overwhelm. No need to feel like you have to commit to a large project. Test stuff out, HAVE FUN!
For now there will be two different yarn packs available (to test the waters and such) starting 12PM PST on Wednesday, September 14th 2016.
All yarn from each pack was sourced second-hand. Some is vintage, some is "new". So once these are sold out, they're gone forever!
There are 9 sets of the INDIGO pack available (due to availability of materials) and they are all dyed and ready-to-ship.
There are 15 sets of the SUNSET pack available. These are dyed-to-order, so please allow around 2 weeks for production time.
Lastly, thank you to all my customers, friends, followers and readers for your continued support throughout LUTE's many incarnations over the years. I hope you're just as excited about the upcoming changes as I am, but if you're not that's OK too ;)
